Electric Bikes

The use of assisted bicycles has grown dramatically in European countries where bicycles are considered transportation. In the US, where bikes are often thought of as “sporting equipment” many people resist the idea of assist as “cheating” and the market has been dominated by bikes where the “bicycle” part of assisted bicycle was an afterthought.  Especially when carrying kids and cargo, assist can be the difference between a fair weather solution and a true car-replacement, go anywhere, do anything bike.

Questions We Often Hear

+ Why do I need an electric bike?

Climbing hills and arriving at work fresh on the hottest days are obvious advantages. But we find that, more importantly, it can remove barriers that can make you choose not to ride your bike. Windy and cold? No problem. Backache or headache? Pedal only as much as you feel able. Route takes you through an intersection where you have to take the lane in traffic? Just dial the assist to max. We find (from personal experience) that having the assist to fall back on can make the difference between biking and either driving or not going at all.

+ Can my existing bike be modified?

At this time we are no longer offering conversions with retrofit kits. We feel that the factory installed motors are much higher quality, and a better long term value than the kits currently available to us.

+ Does my pedaling charge the battery?

No, you charge your battery by plugging your bike into a standard wall outlet. It's just like a laptop computer in that way. However, unlike your laptop, a 4-5 hour charge of your electric bike will help you cover 30 - 50 miles or more of riding. It's incredible.

+ Are electric bikes prone to theft?

We don't see a particular pattern of ebike theft. Bikes that are prone to theft are those that are not secured with high quality locks, or those that are parked in an isolated location, away from public view. Not to worry, we'll coach you on how to keep your new electric bike safe and secure.
